Monohydrate vs. HCl vs. Creapure
Creatine monohydrate is the gold standard — it's the most studied, cheapest, and equally effective to all other forms. Don't pay extra for "advanced" forms. Creapure is a branded form of creatine monohydrate made in Germany with strict purity standards. It's the same molecule, just with verified purity. Creatine HCl has better solubility and may cause less GI discomfort, but requires a lower dose (1.5g vs 5g). The research base is much smaller than monohydrate.
How to Take Creatine
Maintenance protocol (recommended): 3-5g per day. No loading needed. Full saturation in 3-4 weeks. Loading protocol: 20g/day for 5-7 days (4×5g doses), then 3-5g/day. Faster saturation but may cause GI discomfort. Timing: Doesn't matter much. Take it whenever is most convenient — with a meal, post-workout, or morning.
